Within the small group: Our small groups provide a great environment for people to be cared for and to care for others. As groups spend time with one another, life happens. A job is lost, a loved one passes away, a relative gets sick, or a myriad of other crises can arise in the life of a group member. The members of the group can rally around this person or family and provide support during the crisis. Many groups will provide meals or babysit the kids or mow the lawn to help out a person in need. At other times, it can be a word of encouragement, an email, or a note received in the mail that can help bring healing. This kind of care does not happen in a "program" but by belonging to a group. Within the church: In the larger context of the church, small groups often step-up and care for members and attendees of the church who don't belong to their particular small group. It is a tremendous example of the love for one another in the church when a group of people provide care and support for someone outside of their group. Care for others is the way we describe putting into action all that we learn and experience in our walk with Christ. Care for others includes the idea of meeting the needs of others spiritually and physically. In the context of a small group, this is put into practice within two arenas.
