Friendships...

Fellowship...

Whatever word you choose to use, all of these words point to the same truth: we are not meant to go through life alone.  All of us are created to be in relationship with God and with others.  In a small group environment, you can develop friendships with people that go beyond a shallow acquaintance.  As you share life within one another, your friendships take on meaning and importance.

Of course this does not take place overnight, nor can it really take place by spending one hour together three or four times per month.  Which is why all of our small groups are encouraged to have partys, picnics, and get togethers outside of the Bible study time.  It is in these times of laughter and fun that real life can take place as well.

Real friendships not only grow in "the good times", but they often flourish in the difficulties of life.  Your friends in your small group many times are the people who will stand with you when a sickness strikes a loved one, a job is lost, or a loved one dies.  It is in these difficult times that a small group can support you with an encouraging word, a hot meal, or a shoulder to cry upon.

The Bible has a great deal to say about community and fellowship.

Colossians 2:1-3 indicates that fellowship and love for one another is necessary for spiritual growth.

Jesus prayed that Christians would "be one" like He and the Father are one in John 17.

Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 reveals that the members of the church are to be fit together like the parts of a body.
